BelleHavens has just announced an initiative called ‘GreenHome’ - an energy conservation program the club has developed in conjunction with www.Carbonfund.org. The club says it has determined the emissions for energy use at each of its homes, the corporate office, and executive business travel. The club will make an annual donation to Carbonfund.org in an amount calculated to offset its carbon use.
Also, the club has made a commitment to introduce many ‘green’ measures to all of its homes, existing and future, including:
- Compact florescent bulbs
- Solar heating for swimming pools
- Xeriscaping
- Waste-saving liquid soap dispensers
- Upgrading from electrical wall outlets to electrical strips
- Installation of LCD televisions and computer monitors
- Recycling cans for paper, plastic and aluminum
- Front Load washers
- Tankless water heaters
- Buy Local programs
The club also plans to make more use of electronic communication, and to try to educate its members on environmentally friendly choices that can be made around the home.
We like the forthright paragraph at the bottom of the BelleHavens update:
Like the sensibility of our equity ownership structure, which includes more member protections and benefits than any club membership alternative, the BelleHavens GreenHome initiative represents our pragmatic approach to providing luxury travel.
Nice job, BelleHavens. We hope to see other clubs follow suit in the near future.
