It’s a wonderful business model that makes a lot of sense for many affluent families, couples and even singles. However, choosing the right destination club for you is a complex process that takes time and energy. Here are some tips to help you make it as pleasant and effortless as possible.

First, we recommend giving some consideration to your budget. Although annual dues are also important, using the initial deposit as an indicator of overall cost is a valid way to filter your options. You don’t need to set an exact figure, of course, but get clear on whether you have $1m +, $500 000 +, $200 000 +, or under $200 000 to allocate for a destination club membership (annual dues are likely to run to about 10% of that figure, as a rule of thumb). Once you’re clear on the level of spend you’re considering, here are the major clubs you might like to check out in each price band - most clubs have several price points available, so we recommend giving some time to assessing clubs a little above and below your ideal investment:

$1m +

$500 000 +

$200 000 +

$200 000 or less

  • Private Escapes (Premiere Club)
  • Spring Ridge Club
  • High Country Club (www.highcountryclub.com)
    • $60 000 deposit, $8 400 annually
    • One of the most affordable destination clubs
    • Homes are much smaller than most of the other clubs
    • Aiming for aggressive growth through competitive pricing
  • Fly Fishing Destinations
